Petty Issues Thread

(Anonymous) 2017-02-21 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Mine is this:

There's a post going around tumblr of a bunch of images that say things like "This user supports POC", "This user supports queer people", "This user HATES nazis", "This user supports Jewish/Muslim people", etc. and like? It's not a bad post idea in it of itself - I've debated reblogging it, but the, near the end, they included "This user supports otherkin/fictionkin" which is ?

???

How the fuck are otherkin/fictionkin remotely on the same level as disabled people, Muslims, Jewish people, queer people, transgender people etc? Why the fuck would you include that? Are otherkin/fictionkin regularly denied their basic rights as human beings? Are they banned from getting married? Are there anti-fictionkin bathroom laws being passed? Do they lack access to basic health care? Can they be fired because they're fictionkin/otherkin?

Just

Who the fuck thought adding that to a list of all sorts of other actual axis of oppression was a good idea?

I believe in the rest of it, but I'm not reblogging that post because now I'm pissed that that was included. #sorrynotsorry

I 100% agree. I was totally gonna reblog that post until I saw that one.

Same here.

Is this one single list that people are reblogging? Or did someone add it while reblogging? It could've been a troll being an asshole.

If it was part of the original, though, then that definitely doesn't make sense. Is supporting Otherkin actually a thing in some circles?

It was part of the original. :(

I guess?

I hate driving in Texas. Hate it. Everyone is a moron. Everyone passes right in front of you when you are trying to leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. People honk at traffic. Trucks get in the left lane even when there are signs that specifically say no truck in the left lane. And even had one idiot who purposefully sped through a light that had already turned red. With a camera. I hope he gets a ticket.

Are you driving around Austin or Houston? The worst fucking drivers live down there, I swear. I've driven all over the rest of the state and it's been fine, but down south they're awful.

I was driving from San Antonio to Austin. I find San Antonio drivers are pretty bad too.

Yeah, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio are all hellish, and along the coast is awful too like around Nederlands. I took a job there last year and I swear you couldn't drive for five minutes without seeing six near-accidents.

It was like driving in fucking Russia, except faster.

Yup. At least in San Antonio, though, I know where I'm going. This was more stressful because I was having to pay attention to my GPS and the road at the same time.

I think that's all big cities because Nashville and Memphis have the same kind of assholes. :/

I saw that too and didn't reblog it for exactly that reason. I don't support bullying people online about being whatever-kin, but I'm not going to compare that to real oppression.

Maybe I'm the crazy one, tell me if I'm crazy? But I don't GET stop and go traffic.

I'm pretty sure I was pissing people off on my last long drive because every time we'd hit stop and go I'd just leave my foot off the gas and let my car roll along so that by the time I got to the stopped car in front of me they were stomping the gas to zoom forward 10 feet before needing to slam on the breaks again. I mean obviously as soon as traffic actually started moving again I accelerated again with traffic but the constant stomp the gas stomp the breaks just makes zero sense and also makes my passengers pukey.

What I really don't get is the traffic near an accident that is only in the breakdown lane because everyone feels the need to slow down and stare.

Re: Petty Issues Thread

Panda Express is ALWAYS out or nearly so of mixed vegetables. And did not seem to realize that I know 3 heaping scoops of fried rice is not the half-portion I'dd ordered to supplement my veggie dregs with and got snippy after my polite yet futile attempts to get their attention on it culminated in a "STOP" as they were just about to toss the remaining half scoop of veggies onto a mountain of rice.

So...I've cancelled a drive-thru order before when they were out of mixed veggies (which I'd have waited on) and string bean chicken (which was the last straw in that order) and now I've walked out of the store mid order. Even if i wanted to, I can probably never go back.

And I recognize it - along with my Pie Five boycott until they bring back whole grain crust - is extremely petty.

I saw that! I was like, really?

But, I never reblog that 'support' bs anyway. What the fuck does "I support x minority" mean, anyway? It's just some meaningless pat-yourself-on-the-back bullshit that literally anyone can claim. How many radical Christians claim they "support" queer people, so long as they don't practice their lifestyle or don't "impose" it on others? How many racists "support" POC, maybe even donate to scholarships or whatever for POC, while thinking the majority are thugs or "bad hombres" or whatever?

I haven't been on Tumblr in months, but I used to find those "support" posts really annoying. "Oh, look, here's something I can do with absolutely no effort on my part beyond clicking a button, to prove that I'm a Good Person (TM)."

I firmly believe that otherkin/fictionkin are genuinely mentally ill, because otherwise they wouldn't be living 24/7 with delusions on that scale. So I support them in the sense that I think that they deserve the help and care they need to deal with that, but I in NO way support them in their delusions, which is what that post clearly means.

Re: Petty Issues Thread

[personal profile] sachiko_san 2017-02-21 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Some may be, but from personal experience, some are just desperate not to be themselves because of a bad home life or just low self esteem and self-hatred and let the escapism become pure delusion, or may be teenagers who don't think they're all that interesting.

That's make-believe, not genuine delusion. People who in all sincerity legitimately and wholeheartedly believe that they have Sephiroth living in their head, or that they are actually a dragon in human form, on the other hand, should be seeing some kind of doctor. The ones who are using it as a coping mechanism that they know deep down isn't real could also use help, but not the same kind. They might just need someone to be there for them in the sucky aspects of their real life. That kind of support is cool. Encouraging them to really believe that they are this world's version of Rose Quartz and have a telepathic connection to the "real" one...isn't, and I'm pretty sure the latter is what the post means :/

To be fair, online its pretty impossible to tell the "deep down they know its all pretend" people from the "actually delusional" people

Re: Petty Issues Thread

Maybe if you were otherkin, you'd have the lived experience to say how society has oppressed you. But you aren't, and you don't, and because of that your opinion is fucking irrelevant.

I have to wonder if posts like that are troll posts. Slip something ridiculous like otherkin in along with the legit stuff to see if it gets overlooked.

Most of even the super-social justicey places of tumblr have pretty strict "Don't tag other people's art/photos as kin it's upsetting to people"
