I sorta get this

This reminds me of some of my male friends who fulfill this stereotype to some extent (overweight, not conventionally attractive, hairy, nerdy, STEM student, etc.) but they also very much go against the stereotype in certain ways, such as being really chill and accepting of women and LGBT people and having non-traditionally masculine (and non-neckbeardy) hobbies as well: like cooking/baking/cheese making or theater.

I'd be totally up for a character like this so long as they're likable and not an obvious author self insert

I know a bunch of guys just like this, and it would be cool to see characters like them!

Agreed. There are so many lovely nerdy overweight hairy guys and I really wish there was a way to boost their confidence, such as seeing themselves on the screen without being defined by their looks.
