I guess this must be context-dependent, because, I mean, how many works with straight romances actually use the word "straight"? My impression of CLAMP couples is that they all go around saying "we have a world-spanning soulmate romantic relationship and we love each other." That shouldn't become less valid when it's a same-sex couple saying it.

If a character outright says "no homo, we just have a special unique non-gay relationship that happens to involve same-sex makeouts," that's a different story. And I know I've run into that in other places, and thought it was terrible there, it's just...not something I associate with CLAMP.

Really you said everything that I was thinking but didn't want to type...

Even in Clamps more serious works ( such as RG Veda ) the themes of same sex relationships while not outrightly stated.. Hold enough weight in implication.. And never has homosexuality in CLAMP works been treated as laughing matter.. At least not where I can recall. There was that Fai and Kurogane question at that convention in LA in 2000 something where someone asked a question about their relationship and CLAMP was like "so that's what you guys like" which pretty much left it open for interpertation.

Exactly. Seriously, I'm wondering what series OP read cause what they are complaining about just isn't CLAMP.

And also with clamp.. Another positive is that they not only allude to more then platonic male relationships but also nod at women in those same type of relationships which is a mark in their favor.

It means that CLAMP also recignize and allude to the other side of the spectrum.

Yeah, in Cardcaptor Sakura, they make it pretty explicit that Tomoyo has a crush on Sakura, but it's never treated as a joke or anything. The only reason it never goes anywhere is that Sakura is meant to be with Shaoran.

Or Kendappa-Ou and Soma from RG Veda.

Oh gosh, RG Veda kills me each time with the characters and how they all pretty much die for love.
