This show wasn't called QUALITY on Ice for no reason. The Skating scenes were terrible with off model characters. Whoever told you they were good were probably rabid fans.

I mean, it wasn't all good... but this isn't quite fair. The animation was very good (for TV) when it needed to be. The main characters' routines were always a pleasure to watch, a few recycled shots aside. The problem is the sheer glut of skating scenes, leading to uneven quality.

The animation was good during the first episode and immediately after that, it started slipping. The skating scenes were rotoscoped off CGI models and still had a worse framerate than a three dollar Deen production. Characters were off model in every scene and it's funny to watch how hard they tried to draw well the important scenes, and yet came nowhere close to the quality of the first episode. Best part was watching tumblr gif makers struggle to find scenes that would look even mildly ok as gifs.

The show actually more or less received positive reviews for its animation, despite some awkward shots. To say it is "terrible" seems pretty skewed.

By the same people who think this was best show of the year, best main character of the year, best OST, best animation, best direction, etc?

I mean, if you don't agree, you don't agree. But when critics give it positive reviews in basically all those categories, you don't really get to say it's "only rabid fangirls" who would claim those things. If anything, by trying to argue it's so terrible, you seem a bit like an anti-fan.

Anime critics are just average joes, their opinions aren't more worthwhile than any other fan.

No matter how you look a it, the animation was serviceable during the non skating scenes, and terrible for most routines. First episode had great animation, eveything moved all the time, the rest of the show? Not so much. I think some of you are confusing looking good with having good animation. Go watch any Kyoani show, that's good animation.

Positive reviews... from it's rabid fans. Especially if you're talking about crunchyroll awards lmao

This must be some peoples only anime if they think that animation was good. There is a reason people mock it.

Tadashi Hiramatsu just won animator of the year from the Tokyo Animation Awards for the series, which is a critics award. Certainly not 'rabid fans' nor just random people reviewing anime on a website.
