Oscars

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Anybody watching the Oscars today? I don't really care for the ceremony itself but I do enjoy watching all the pretty people on the red carpet, and I usually do something fun food-wise (like go to a favorite restaurant with TVs and watch them there, or make pizza at home, or order Chinese), but I'm sick today (boo, hiss) so nothing but ginger ale. How about you, FS? Do you have a favorite actor or film you're rooting for this year? Do you do anything fun because of the Oscars? Do you not have a single fuck to give? Tell me about it!

I honestly don't think I've been to a movie theater once this past year, I don't watch things until they go on Netflix and even then, my attention span for movies is embarrassingly short. So no, I don't exactly care, but I do want to read tomorrow about all the times the award winners used their mic time to rag on Trump, and then hear Trump throw a fit about it.

Also I hate myself for saying this but I'll probably read the headlines about the best and worst dresses.

Yeah, I can't wait to hear what celebrities are overrated on Twitter tomorrow.

I'm just vaguely hoping Hidden Figures beats the odds and lands an Oscar.

I hope so too. It was such a memorable film and really well done.

Aaaand somebody already called it Hidden Fences. *facepalm*

Re: Oscars

I'm sorry to say that I mostly don't care. Definitely not enough to watch. I'll probably look at some pictures of people looking pretty in nice clothes but that's about the extent of it.

Don't be sorry, there's nothing wrong with not caring about the Oscars. :)

I'm just hoping Kubo doesn't take the animated. The first ten minutes were brilliant, the rest utter meh :/ but everyone loves it, so the Academy probably does too

You have a broken 'what is good' meter. :(

Re: Oscars

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly. I just really hated the beetle guy the entire time and particularly after the spoilhurs were revealed. I found that whole background plot dumb, and I didn't get why they'd have to make it look "Japanese" when it was so incredibly American in tone and plot and everything.

It was drawing a lot of elements from The Woodcutter's Tale (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_the_Bamboo_Cutter), what with 'if you go to the moon you will lose all fear and distress and love'. Why should it deliberately change the costuming away from its source materials?

Actually, could you give an example of what about it reads as 'American' to you? So I can know if we're on the same page?

It's fine if you didn't like it, but it'd be a miracle for the oscar to not go to either disney or pixar tbh

It usually goes to either Disney or Pixar, so I wouldn't worry about it. 'sides doesn't the dudes to vote admitted that they don't really watch animated series but vote for whatever they watch with their family?

Fuck you, it's about time something from Studio Laika takes home Oscar gold instead of Disney and Dreamworks all the damn time.

Re: Oscars

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but not that one. (FWIW: I'd agree completely, usually. I haven't taken the animated one seriously ever since fucking Frozen beat The Wind Rises)

Definitely.

Hoping for Moonlight and Arrival to take a good chunk of nominations.

I watch them every year as a tradition, even though this year I've only seen some of the animated features :/ I actually like the look of a lot of the noms (I really want to see Moonlight and Hidden Figures especially) but I just haven't got around to them.

I like to see the pretty outfits but I don't care about who wins what and I don't do anything for it or even watch it most of the time since it's usually on too late for me to be assed with watching.

I watch the Oscars with my Mom and sister every year. I like Jimmy Kimmel too! I think we're ordering pizza this year. :)

I'm here for Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Fences, and Dev Patel.

I'm totally bored so I'll be watching the Oscars. Also to see any last-minute Bill Paxton mentions.
