ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
How much a hypocrite am I if I'm OK to vote for a party that plans to legalize cannabis, but, during the time it's still illegal, consider reporting my asshole neighbor for smoking?

100%

Is legalising cannabis just something you're OK with while voting this party, or is it something you actually support/why you vote for that party?

You're a hypocrite either way, but I feel your answer would narrow down the specific level of your hypocrisy.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but also reporting them is probably more trouble than its worth.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you want to report you neighbor bc he's smoking and you don't like it? Or do you want to report him bc he's an asshole and this would be sth you could get him on?

Don't snitch on somebody for smoking weed IMHO

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on what view you look at it from.

Legally no, as regardless of whether or not it should be legal, it is currently illegal. You could take the high(-horse) ground of someone who would smoke if it were legal but doesn't yet because it's not.

Morally, probably hypocritical, but it depends, again. Is he bothering other people with his smoking? Is he That Guy in the apartment building that constantly is stinking up the hallways and hotboxing in his room? Are you reporting him because his smoking adversely affects you or because he's an asshole and you want an excuse?

200%. Snitching on someone for weed is a huge dick move.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all. Illegal now is illegal now.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Found all the potheads.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I don't smoke pot and never will (even if legalized). But snitching on someone for smoking pot is such an asshole thing to do.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
they're defensive as hell, too. they must not be smoking enough.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have to be a pothead to think that reporting someone for smoking pot in the United States is an asshole move.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-26 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on the motivation.

Ultimately, it's an illegal drug. So..

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
i wouldn't risk it. if he's a really bad neighbor he may find out YOU reported him and get even worse!

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
go for it. report the bastard. but don't tell the cops anything about who you are or where you live, etc. chances are, the asshole will be worse if he finds out who reported him.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Not remotely. Being on board with something being legalized isn't the same thing as it being currently legal, for one, and if his drug use is disruptive to your peace and well-being, you're perfectly within your rights to report him.

FTR, you'd also be within your rights to report him if he was being an obnoxiously disruptive drunk, and alcohol is perfectly legal already.

I may be biased, but I don't think you're a hypocrite.

If it's still illegal where you live, I know for me I feel guilty by association if I DON'T report it. Especially in my apartment complex that is smoke-free (any kind, tobacco, weed, vaping, etc). That's written right in the lease.

Of course, it also helps that weed has an awful effect on me (feeling like my head's going to explode, stuffy nose, watery eyes, uncontrollable sneezing), and leaves me feeling sick for days afterward (migraines and seizures). So.. yeah. I believe weed should be legalized, but please don't "share" it with me. :(

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Not hypocritical at all, and I smoke weed. If it's illegal then it's illegal.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of? The degree depends on how in favor you are of pot being legalized, imo. But is he hurting anyone with it?

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
You don't like your neighbor so you're going to report him for a crime that you support decriminalizing.

That doesn't make you a hypocrite, unless you also smoke. It probably makes you an asshole though. You're probably the type that calls the landlord when you suspect a neighbor has an unauthorized kitten, too.

You're probably the type that calls the landlord when you suspect a neighbor has an unauthorized kitten, too.

How does that make someone an asshole? The neighbor is breaking the rules that they agreed to when they signed the lease. If having a kitten was that important to them, they should've picked a pet-friendly building to begin with.

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
And the kitten hurts you how?

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-28 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's a dick move for sure, but being honest, some people have SUPER CRAZY STRONG allergies and cat hair/dander getting into the ventilation system and pumped with the AC into their apartment will fuck them right up

Re: ethical dilemma

(Anonymous) 2017-02-27 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not hurting you, and it's not morally wrong for them to do.
