I have one! It's pretty ubiquitous among the Dreamwidth roleplay community. Not the best social network in the world, but it's serviceable and my friends are there, so.

It's just a social network platform like Twitter, but arranged horizontally instead of vertically.

You can have a certain amount of custom emotes (I think up to 60 for free users), which is kind of nifty. Other than that, not really.

e: Also the comment threads are easier to follow for me, but then I never got the hang of when to reply and when to retweet on Twitter.

Thats interesting, that always seemed like a pretty intuitive part of Twitter to me.

Yep, horizontal feed, where only the top comment is visible, then you click on it to access the conversation. Unread comments are marked as such in red. You can lock down your account to friends only, or lick specific threads to private so only certain people can see it.

like vethica said, it's pretty much the platform of note for DW RPers. It's super easy to use. Want to talk about your game? Make a plurk with a headline for it and your fellow players can plot with you. Want to share pictures of your cat? Plurk about it so all your friends can coo. Don't give a shit what your friends are plurking about? Mute the plurk and you never have to care about it. It also insta-notifies you when a plurk has been responded to.

It behaves more like an old-school aim chat than FB or other social media platforms do, but you can have several chats going on at once in different places without crossing the streams. Super handy.

I ditched AIM for it several years ago because it lets you have ongoing conversations with multiple people without having to all be logged in at the same time.
