'Memeber Holic...?

Okay, so I am surprisingly not as bitter as I was back in the day, and you could say reading TRC helped me grew out of the bitterness (ha!)

Thought I'm bitter about Fei Wong Reed being such a plain villain. He just needs a mustache to twirl evilly while petting a cat (which is also evil) and drinking from a cup of wine (evil wine!) while grinning in his (evil!) chair and monologuing about his evil deeds.

I know it was mentioned the he might have also been a clone or remnants of a wish, but compared to clone!Sakura and clone!Syaoran who had a PERSONALITY, he was just Blandy McBland, Perpetrator of Angst.

Yes, I'm 8 years later to the party, yay~

Considering the time (and likely money) you'll invest in getting through ALL of Tsubasa and 'Holic, I'd say there's plenty reason to be bitter about that dumpster fire of an ending. (because, I, I did not find Tsubasa to be any better)

I read TRC in like three days so it wasn't a biggie for me, but holic... oh dear sweet Jesus, I spent YEARS reading Holic. Needless to say I was bitter, pissed, and whatever other horible emotion you could think of when the ending dropped.

But I'm making my peace with it. It was shit, but I'm making my peace.

And in hindsight reading clamp_rants on lj (found it on an unrelated google search) is now hilarious to me. People going "it will get solved in the holic epilogue!" and then nothing getting solved...

HOW

but yeah, I can feel your pain re. Holic. I stopped keeping up with both at some point and just checked in every few months to see what had happened, but for the people who loved it enough to keep up, that ending must've been ten times worse :/ The Tsubasa-Holic project would be a perfect case study in wasted potential. It felt so obvious that Tsubasa was just written into a place they didn't know how to get out of, but with Holic? I wonder if they did it just because ART IS ANGSTY.

LOL I'm a quick reader!

Yeah, I feel like TRC tried to be this epic story with tons of crossovers and an epic story, but it crumbled down under its own weight. I think it would have worked better as a light-hearted series about these characters traveling around and looking for a way home, or running away from it. Kuro and Fai could keep their respective stories, Syaoran and Sakura could be unwilling travelers, etc.

I think both Tsubasa and Holic didn't need the plot twist.

Also you might be right about Holic. Iirc Mokona Apapa said in an interview that the Holic ending was meant to show how people find happiness in strange places. Which is ironic when you get tho THIS PAGE from World Chronicle and it's like "...Why CLAMP, WHY?"

The ONE THING that I can appreciate about the GrimDark that Tsubasa turned into, is that Fai's story doesn't work without it and Kurogane's story doesn't work without Fai's, and those two were my favourite bits all along. But shyeah, the light-hearted adventure story was what I was there for since the beginning, and the darker turn and all the plot twists just didn't work and the end was just SO FLAT because they obviously had no idea what the hell Fei Wan had been after anyway.

You know, I can... kinda see that reasoning re. finding happiness, but the problem of course is that the people who surround Watanuki clearly aren't finding that same happiness that he might or might not be. Aaaaand that page would probably be more telling than any peaceful faces Watanuki puts up (even if I'm kinda confused as to why Fai should look sad when last I remember, Watanuki would've been "Yuko's errand boy" to him)

AND WHAT WAS WITH THE EGG.

Yup, both their stories where really well developed and made sense. They managed to fit the story (Kuro wanting to go back, Fai running away). But the plot twist felt like they did it for the sake of having a plot twist, and you can tell.

And this ALWAYS bothered me about holic and the ending in general. Again, it felt that they put a plot twist for the sake of having a plot twist and NO ONE was happy in the end. Ngl I like watching Watanuki taking over the shop and helping spirits, but not at the expenses of leaving Doumeki and Himawari out.

lol yeah, this has always bothered me. They are good people but they are not super duper close with Watanuki to that point. I'd understand if they felt sad because Syaoran feels sad over Watanuki angsting, but because WATANUKI feels sad? Pffft right.
