I'm sure it's for dramatic reasons but it still irks the hell out of me that most shows don't even try to resuscitate people who die before the ambulance arrives. I really liked Erin! She at least deserved some token CPR, you guys.

To be fair, Strauss was poisoned. There's only so much you can do for someone who's organs are likely shutting down and you don't give CPR to someone who's still conscious and talking.

Yes, exactly. I've often complained about no CPR or CPR done wrong on television, but not with this scene.

Can you imagine a paramedic saying that, though? "Oh, she was poisoned when her pulse stopped so we won't bother trying to revive her." They don't make judgment calls like that.

And why would Hotch or Rossi just give up on trying to save her life? That seems completely out of character.

I hate that TV writers think we find CPR undignified or something and so they are basically training viewers not to DO anything to help anyone who needs it.

You always do CPR

OP here.

In the screenshot, she was already "dead". Hotch had checked her pulse and made sadface. He should have immediately put her down and started CPR and not stopped until the paramedics took over.

You start mouth-to-mouth as soon as they stop breathing. If their pulse stops, you start CPR. You don't make a judgment call on what killed them. The paramedics don't even make judgement calls.

More folks should take CPR classes, I think.

More folks should take CPR classes, I think.

With that at least, I agree.

I liked Erin, too, and wished she hadn't been killed off.

And even if, as one poster noted, there wasn't much one could really do at that point, these people seem like the sort who'd still try their damndest regardless, even if they knew on some level their efforts to save her weren't going to work.

I liked Strauss better than Cruz, particularly since after a couple episodes he doesn't even have an active role in the series.

I don't mind Cruz, either, but yeah, he's seemed to kinda just disappear over time :p. At least Strauss got mentioned from time to time, even when she didn't appear in an episode. I remember a couple episodes ago they mentioned Cruz' name and I was like, "Hey, they acknowledged he still exists!" LOL.

I didn't like her dying, too. But for the rest of your secret, you picked both the wrong scene and the wrong show. CM is generally pretty good about showing us first aid and CPR, and in Strauss's case there wasn't anything they could have done. Calling 911, sure, but that's all.

You always, always do CPR.

Also, please name me a scene on CM where someone on the team did CPR. I haven't seen the whole series yet, but I haven't seen one so far.

Not if it's poison and there's danger of being poisoned, as well. Not if there's blood and one is injured oneself. There are so many instances when one doesn't to CPR.

Not the only scene, just one that's particularly memorable to me.

I was taught in my cpr lessons that you do all you can until a doctor or medical professional declares death, unless it's unsafe to do so. Which I suppose could be the case if someone has been poisoned. Also, I gather these days they recommend you don't do mouth to mouth unless very well trained, (most people do it incorrectly) chest compressions are more important? Idk there's some cool vinnie Jones adverts about it
