Folk Rock

(Anonymous) 2017-03-05 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
My music obsession of the week. Any country/nationality will do, bonus points if it's in singer's/band's mother tongue. Will also accept folk pop and folk jazz (already have a good collection of folk metal).

YO HI, THIS IS MY JAM. So this includes some of both bands that are known for rock interpretations of traditional music, and original rock/indie pop songwriters in the folk tradition. Some of my favorites include:

Legit folk-rock bands and artists: De Rosa, Arab Strap (and the solo work of Aiden Moffat & Malcolm Middleton), Morris On (various artists), Fairport Convention, The Pentangle (folk jazz/skiffle revival), Brass Monkey, Steeleye Span, the Albion Band (and the many other projects of Ashley Hutchings not already on this list), the Stanfields (folk punk), Sandy Denny (and Fotheringay)

Indie type rock/pop folkies: Bowerbirds, Dog Days, Elysian Fields, Great Lake Swimmers, The National, Rah Rah, The Wilderness of Manitoba, Foxface, Sons & Daughters,

Some other artists that are either not quite folky enough, or not quite rock enough, but still might be worth checking out if you like folk rock: Al Stewart, Andrew Bird, British Sea Power, Craig Cardiff, King Creosote, Driftwood Fire, First Aid Kit, Iron & Wine, Roddy Woomble (of Idlewild, but they are not a folk act),

You might enjoy checking out Blyth Power if you can track down their stuff.

I'm assuming you're already familiar with the big 60s and 70s folk rock names, so.
