Re: Disney's First Gay Character

How about when the canon in question has any other gay characters, so that the take-away message won't be 'if you're gay you're evil, pathetic, or evil AND pathetic'? What era are you from, the 1950s? Is the Hays Code still in operation? Why is the sadsack villainous sidekick the best option for the first gay character?

NAYRT

I mean, LeFou always came as pretty in love with Gaston to me even from the original movie? I know I'm probably not wording this right, but it probably seemed 'easiest' for them to make it canon than try and find another male character to throw in there and be gay?

I mean would it be awesome if they had gay/lesbian Disney Princes/Princesses? Fuck yeah. But it's Disney, they're ultimately still there to make money and sell merch, and this is probably their version of testing the waters while still making bank.

Yeah, I realise that it's the path of least resistance for them, but that honestly really doesn't make it any better. And maybe they'll make some changes to the story to make it less bad, but. It's still bad. Of all characters they could have picked.
