He is? And way more sexist.

Like they're both pretty gross, but Whedon can at least somewhat entertain me at times, especially in a short form narrative (like a movie).

Exactly. Monogatari is just a pretentious harem anime at the end of the day, and Araragi is a stereotypical harem protagonist who wants to save all the girls and lowkey wants to fuck lolis and his sisters. Would its fans be as obsessive about if not for the fantastic animation and soundtrack? I doubt it.
