The success or failure of what she wanted is irrelevant here. What is relevant is the expectation that might have been in her mind. As a man he expected people to listen and to pay attention. As a woman she is just finding out that she is mocked and shoved to the margins.

I guess my thinking is that the simplest explanation for why she thought people might listen to her is her political beliefs, which she had for a long time and pretty sincerely, because it's a way of thinking that actually makes sense to someone with those political beliefs. It just doesn't seem like something that needs to be explained by reference to male privilege or transness.
