He's by far my favourite thing about the series (except in the finale, where apparently his great intellect was completely useless for solving simple Trolley Problems). I'd give a spin-off a shot.

I feel like Trolley Problems are not necessarily things that can be 'solved' in, like, a mathematical sense, and it does not seem obviously true that intellect is useful for making moral judgments, so it's not that surprising to me tbh

He is a good version of the character though

Sure they are. People whom you can see, you can save, but out of sight is out of mind and its up to deity-of-choice to sort that one out.

I've never seen why people struggle so hard over "Trolley Problems". They always seem clear cut to me.

Don't say this to anyone, they'll just start upping the ante. "But what if the one person was an adorable endangered animal? What if it was YOUR MUM?" etc. unto infinity.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Wait the adorable endangered animal is a person? Sorry mom, there is a story behind that one I gotta hear.

honestly that doesn't make it any harder for me? like

I just recognize that I *should* save five strangers instead of my brother, but I wouldn't, regardless whether I had to pull a switch or leave it unpulled. I'm just capable of choosing. I don't feel bad about having to choose between five kindergardeners and ten grandmas or whatever because I'm not the asshole tying people to train tracks.

If more people drove cars then there would be less trolley problems to solve.

He's my favourite, too, and I'd totally watch the spin-off.

As for the finale, I don't know. I'm trying to tell myself that great intellect often doesn't do well with emotional stuff. And at least he was still helpful with his deductions, like the bit with the corrective eye surgery of the shooter. But meh, I would have liked to see both Sherlock and Mycroft coldly going through the challenge.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-06 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer Mycroft in small doses.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I would also watch the hell out of an Uncle Rudy spin off. With the few facts we know about Rudy Holmes, it would be on heck of a spy thriller

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeeeeeeeeeeees! I would watch that, too. And how Mycroft kinda followed in his footsteps.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Meh. He's no Rhys Ifans.
saturnofthemoon: (Sherlock - Mycroft)

Yeah, it's a shame Mycroft: The Series was originally cancelled after two episides. (Something about cake.) There should be a revival, co-starring Mrs. Hudson.

Nice! Hadn't seen that one before. Loved it, would love more of it. *g*

Yeeeeeeeeeees OP!
Also, Lestrade.
Or John during MedSchool/Afghanistan.

Sherlock, whilst Cumberbatch is great, is one of the least interesting characters in the show IMO.

OP

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Different for me, I couldn't care less for Freeman's Watson. One of the least interesting characters on the show for me. But I adore Sherlock, and would watch a slice of live show about Sherlock and Mycroft as children and how it was like growing up Holmes any day.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-07 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
A bit OT, but what I really want is a new Holmes adaptation in which 1) Mycroft is fat, and 2) Sherlock loves and respects his brother.
