I will fight you on Dan Brown's stuff. I haven't read Eragon in years though I heard the last book was a huge improvement over his first 3.

I have no idea who the othes are and I only read The Vampire Diaries when there were only 4 books waaaaay back when I was in middle school.

I'm glad for you too, anon. And I like this secret because Pokémon is one of those fandoms I will always go back to, and I have a friend who has said this specifically to me before (and she has also had issues with past fandom friends making some fandoms difficult to enjoy).

I'm really curious as to what happened with your friend, but of course you don't have to talk about it. Either way I'm glad you're away from them, it sounds like they were not good for you.

okay, but fanfiction doesn't carry with it the normal elements of an original piece of fiction tho?

original fiction is at least expected to introduce the characters, basic plot points, and weave an entire story around it. fanfiction expects some base level knowledge of the characters and their relationships, and oftentimes the plot of the original story (even in an AU context) and thus isn't going to spend time introducing or world-building in those ways. I like fanfic and all, but very often the assumption you know the characters means less time spent on what would otherwise be essential to original fiction.

and with so much fanfic out there for series you've presumably watched or read yourself, I do still find it pretty weird when people read fanfic for series they don't follow at all. with very rare, well-written or exceptionally fleshed-out AUs as the exception, most fanfic isn't appealing at all without context.

I haven't seen this film, but I've read synopsises and it sounds like a hot pile of garbage in many ways. There's plenty of valid reasons to criticize Christianity (especially in how it is practiced), but there's a difference between saying "let's make fun of these attitudes/practices because they are hypocritical and harmful" and saying "let's make fun of them because th Tre so DUMB AND STUPID unlike us SMART ATHEISTS"

From what I've seen it doesn't do too well with other religions as well. There's major Muslim and Jewish characters but apparently they exist mainly so they can make jokes about conflicts in the Middle East (which is also one of the reasons I fucking HATED the fourth season of Orange is the New Black)

He's by far my favourite thing about the series (except in the finale, where apparently his great intellect was completely useless for solving simple Trolley Problems). I'd give a spin-off a shot.
