I will definitely read for fandoms I have no knowledge of. Sometimes it works, other times I am completely lost. Because fanfic starts with the assumption about a lot of basic facts and settings. Sometimes imagination or very very basic knowledge can kind of work for you, but sometimes nope.

I've been reading some Suits fic lately with never having watched an episode, but basic knowledge of the show. It's been working, but I got invested so actually hunted down the first couple of episodes to watch. I laughed over how many references and plot points I completely missed when reading fic! I mean, I didn't really notice them missing, but once I had that knowledge it definitely enhanced the writing/reading.
