Do you tend to get scared by more personal things in your life, or bigger global things? What sort of things do you spend the most time feeling paranoid about or afraid of?

Kinda scared of North Korea, just since there was another missile launch in the news. Well, I don't think they'd have any chance at winning any war, but they might be capable of attacking Japan and that really scares me. Not sure how the situation could possibly be handled and I'm sure the proper intelligence authorities around the world have better plans than I ever would, but still. Weapons of mass destruction are scary, especially nuclear shit. If NK did attack anyone, I know everyone would just take the excuse to wipe them out, but it is unnerving to think what kind of damage they might do in their first (and presumably only) strike.

I'm honestly scared of climate change/ecological destruction and nuclear escalation. :/

Same, same. It's just the thought of us destroying our actual planet. Like, that's it. We fucked everything up and there's nothing beyond that.

Yeah, I mean unless we colonize Mars first, but that ain't gonna happen.

And it would still be horrible.

I'm less worried about us being unable to save it, and more worried about whether we will save it. There are so many people that either 1. really don't understand/refuse to accept the scale of the problem or 2. just don't care because they'll be dead and it won't be their problem.

I'm more scared that we are not going to have a nuclear war, that we are just going to continue sliding into neofeudalism and a 21stC version of Norman Serfdom. I'd rather we had a nuclear war and got it all over with. Of course I'm also struggling with some pretty brutal depression right now too. My welcoming of the end of the world might be tied to that.

I'm not that nihilist...I don't want humanity to die. And a nuclear war may or may not bring total destruction to humanity - it might just bring large scale destruction and leave a few left to clean up the mess (and get radiation sickness/cancer and have a horrible dystopian hellscape to live in).

Same. People don't seem to realize that when we talk about needing to stop climate change, we're not just talking about saving the polar bears and pandas and such – we're killing ourselves, too. And for what? So corporations can make a few more dollars? So climate change deniers can smugly declare that no, we're totally fine, guys, until we're all wiped out by a superstorm or famine or a worldwide drought? Do these people not have children? WHY DON'T THEY CARE???

I feel such a sense of terror every time I think about it. And even though I don't have children and never plan to have them, I have friends and family with children. I might die (naturally) before things get too unbearable, but they probably won't. It crushes me.

My biggest fear is what would happen if something happened to my parents and sister, leaving me just me with no friends and then something happens to ME and I have no support.

I can easily see this happening to me, so I have every sympathy with you.

The Trump administration. It's gotten to the point where it is directly (negatively) affecting the field of work I'm in, and with the budget cuts, pretty sure I'll be out of a job. America is fucked, I'm not sure how we'll bounce back from this.

We'll be in hell to awhile but we always bounce back.

Ugh, this fucking administration is screwing over my family, many of my friends, and most of my students. A part of me wants to throw my hands up in the air and stop fighting them because I'm so damn tired, but I'm still gonna feel scared, so I might as well keep calling and protesting.

Going on twitter, turning on my TV, or opening tumblr because I know I'll see new Trump, Russia, and/or North Korea news. I'm sick and tired of idiots telling me that everything is going to be okay when it obviously isn't.

What doesn't scare me at this point? School, my mom's health, paying for school and mom's health and all her bills and for the house...and then there's the world and Chump and co. just fucking over the environment and poor people and scientists and non-white people and Muslims and women and kids and the social safety net and other countries and and and... Honestly, the only good news I can think of is the drought is at least temporarily easing up down here and I got a promotion and a small raise.

When my boss gets angry, he kicks and throws things. I'm scared he's going to attack me.

Eh, nothing really? I worry about my mom because my aunt just got cancer and she (my mom) has been a bit stressed because they're close in age (and emotionally as well).

I know how you feel, too. I've had aunts who've had cancer (and one of them died from it), and I worry about something similar happening to my mom, too. Cancer unfortunately is a thing in our family. That and diabetes. Fun times.

Personal stuff scares me.

Large scale things don't, even though a lot of them are things I care really passionately about, because the world is objectively getting better and better all the time and I think in general humanity will keep improving things. There are always set backs along the way, and negative parts of certain cycles like politics, but there's more good in the world than bad.

Scared that I'm going to snap from all the stress at work and flip my shit at my boss and get fired.

Political stuff--my country's headed for a big BIG mess.

Getting fired.

I find Islam scary, and I swing between saying that yes, I have Islamaphobia, and no, it's not actually a phobia because phobias are irrational fears and I think it is rational to worry about Islam.

I'm sorry you feel that way, I guess, but I highly suggest you stop listening to the internet and start meeting actual Muslim people. You'll find they're not very different from you or me.

Never judge an entire group of people by their worst members. It'd be exactly the same as saying "I find black people scary" because you hear a lot about murders committed by people who happen to be black.

I'm scared I'll never truly be free, that I'll never feel safe anywhere, and that I'll never have friends I feel I can rely on, that I'll never believe the phrase "I love you" ever again.

So I guess for the most part, personal.
