Moana

[personal profile] philstar22 2017-03-09 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I was finally able to see this while on the plane to Boston. I've now watched this 3 times in the past two days. I really, really love it. The music is amazing. I think it is going to be my second favorite Disney movie after Lion King.

It's just so damn charming.

I really want one of LE doll that the Disney Store is selling.

It is. And the characters are surprisingly complex (how adorable was the ocean?). And the graphics were gorgeous. And the music was beautiful. I just love it. I've got the soundtrack on repeat on my Ipod right now.

I saw it in theaters awhile ago and I'm anxious to pick it up this week. I really enjoyed the ending a lot, and I want to see it again. I ended up shipping Moana and the Goddess.

I totally ended up shipping them too, though I also ended up shipping Maui/Te Ka. Not sure how that would work, but whatever.

I don't think it is very accessible to the general audience, especially with the character designs, since there are no real common points of reference. It is too niche. It is something maybe for the Hawaiian domestic market, or maybe Australian.

Australia has very little to do with the Pacific Islands, if this is a race-and-culture issue for you.

It's got a lot of archetypal themes and character types that can appeal to viewers who have never seen a coconut on an actual coconut tree.

People enjoy stories about people who don't look or dress like them every day. Ancient Rome. Knights of the Round Table. K-drama. Regency Romance. Napoleonic Wars.

It's like when The Lion King came out and I thought "Lions will probably like this, but I have no common points of reference."

I like the character designs. Moana's body looks like my body - neither curvy nor willowy, but sort of brick-shaped. I'm not Polynesian. It's actually an incredibly common female body type - like 50%.

I saw it in the cinema once but I absolutely can't wait until I can get it on DvD, I really liked it. The songs were fab, the animation looked beautiful(tho they always get better with new films so that's to be expected) and I liked the plot.

It's definitely tied with Zootopia as my favourite Disney movie this year.

Yes! I finally got to see it, too, and it's so fun! Plus it's just gorgeous, omg, the *ghost ships* or, well, not ghosts so much but - anyway, they were *beautiful*, and her Grandmother....

Yeah, very cool movie.

Was it the entire series that was supposed to leave, or just seasons 1-5? I didn't get why a partial Netflix property was getting kicked off Netflix.

Feud: Bette and Joan

(Anonymous) 2017-03-09 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Is anyone watching this? I know it's new and only 1 episode of 8 has aired so far, but I'm loving it! Susan Sarandon is especially good in it. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series and I think I'll rewatch Whatever Happened to Baby Jane again when it's over.

Yuri on Ice

(Anonymous) 2017-03-09 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I just finished rewatching it (English dubbed this time) and love it so much. Victor's voice took a little of warming up but I loved it overall. The accents were super enjoyable. JJ is actually Canadian, omg.

Googling it is so annoying though because so many online publications publish articles practically daily saying things like "Yuri on Ice Season 2 News/Release date" or something along those lines, and naturally, the article doesn't contain any such news of the sort. Fake news has extended to fucking anime, lol. Where are my reputable anime sources.

I've been afraid to watch the dub since I heard reports that Victor sounds like Gru.

Fantastic Beasts...

[personal profile] skeletal_history 2017-03-09 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I got into the FBAWTFT fandom just through seeing 34098342 gif sets on my tumblr dash, thinking Colin Farrell looked hot af, and getting into reading Graves/Credence fic just because that One Scene that's been giffed 3498300 times hit all my buttons.

So then the digital copy was released yesterday and I finally got to watch the movie and LOOOOL Graves and Credence have three very short scenes together and Graves is barely in the movie. From all the attention he gets on tumblr I thought he was going to be co-protagonist along with Newt, or have like 40% of screentime to Newt's 60%. NOPE.

This is making me laugh so hard right now. Not as bad as Teen Wolf fandom's hyperfocus on the canonically non-existent Derek/Stiles ship, but close!

(That One Scene still hits all my buttons, though. It's just better in slo-mo gif format!)

Re: Fantastic Beasts...

(Anonymous) 2017-03-09 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
NGL, Graves was hella hot. I was like...daayyyuuummm Colin Farrell, I forgot you looked good.

And...while I'm not on Tumblr, I knew Graves/Creedence would be a thing. I think I know the scene (in the alley?), but their scenes were always kind of intense.
