(Anonymous) 2017-03-13 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)I'm on disability myself and the only reason I've been able to hold down a job is because I've found a job where I can pick and choose which days I'm available to work. If I say I'll work a particular day then I HAVE to work that day, which can still be really difficult for me, but once I get booked to work a day, I always make sure I have the next day off, because I know I'll need it to recover. Sometimes I just take an entire week off because I'm feeling depressed and wiped out. If I couldn't set my schedule that way, I don't think I could work at all.
what job is this btw?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-14 03:19 am (UTC)(link)Unfortunately, for most people this won't be an option, because there are only a fewlocations where the film industry is booming enough to support consistent need for BG extras. Vancouver, Toronto, LA, New York, I guess London...some others but I don't really know that much about the film industry outside Canada.
I will say, though, that while it's a cool job in some respects, there are a lot of things about it that are utter shit. Having absolute control over what days you do and don't work is great, but I still spend a lot of time wondering if it's worth it, or if I should just get a job at a grocery store two blocks from my house and do my best to keep it together and show up every day.

I just realized this is super misleading. You actually have zero control over getting booked. You get to say "I won't work Mon/Tues/Wed and I'm available Thurs/Fri/Sat," but you never know whether they'll actually book you for Thurs or Fri or Sat, or two of the three, or none of the three or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-14 04:49 am (UTC)(link)Good for you for making this work for you, anon. I'm proud of you. (If the words of a random internet stranger mean anything!) Anyway as someone also working around limitations to the best of my ability, I know it takes a quiet kind of strength just to live sometimes, much less work hard to the best of your ability.
Re: what job is this btw?
(Anonymous) 2017-03-14 07:40 am (UTC)(link)But then I get good days where filming is not outside, and they're actually heating the set properly, and the call time wasn't 6 AM, and everybody's being chill, and then someone cool and famous walks in and starts doing stuff. Those days are pretty decent. :)
Re: what job is this btw?
You could find some place that can hire you for a day or two a week to have it more planned and if it is below official part-time hours or on zero contract - most would. Hell, my brain is rotting without ~le black market job~ and would love to do anything but legs do not work :| plus black market does not give you work history. Woe is me.
