Yeah, that guy's stuff sucks (though his Gundam OO stuff is a lot worse than his bland, mediocre Phoenix Wright stuff). There was a thread on /u/ a few weeks back where anons were tearing into his fanfiction and pointing out all the bad writing, characterization errors, and general suckiness.

Let's be honest, here:

If you want to find "characterization errors, bad writing, general suckiness" in something, you're going to find all of the above. It's called a self-serving bias. >\

That said, characterization depends on one's own personal perception of a canon character. I'm not quite sure why we're all bitchfighting over something that's essentially personal opinion. No matter what anyone says, you can't deny that the Klavier from this RP hits on all of the main points of Klavier's canon character.

Everything else, subtleties, etc. is up to the discretion of the player.

So whatever, I find him enjoyable.

What makes you think I have any particular bias? I tried to like his stuff because someone recced it to me and I love F/A.

The better question is, why wouldn't you be biased?

Everyone has their own inner preconceived notion of how a character should be portrayed. If it doesn't fit your expectations, no matter if said expectations are systematically "correct" by Phoenix Wright canon standards, then hells yes you will find any and all details in said fanwork that will turn you off to the characterization.

I'm not a canon nazi by any means and accept most kinds of characterization as long as it is justifiable. His stuff is just bad. I'm almost starting to think you're him.

And being biased does not mean you're a canon nazi. Did you read my definition of a self-serving bias? EVERYONE is fucking biased. There IS no correct characterization except for what the official writers of Phoenix Wright dictate.

Basically, this whole argument is bullshit because everyone's conception of a character could be completely different while, at the same time, being completely WRONG when placed against the writers' intentions.

I don't see why Funk gets so much hate. His stuff isn't very good, but it isn't very bad either. Save your whining for someone who is genuinely terrible, not just completely average.

That mediocrity is exactly why people don't like him. Good fics are impressive and nice to read. Bad fics can at least be laughed at. What do you do with something so bland and middle-of-the-road that it might as well not exist?

He's average at everything he tries his hand at but is just so pompous and off-putting OOC at the same time. He is socailly retarded, which people mistake for arrogance, and they end up hating him instead of doing us all a favour and just ignoring him.

At least he's slightly more tolerable in other fandoms. I don't know what the hell it is about PW fandom that make people go bugfuck insane.

here is my theory about that: phoenix wright fandom is pretty stupid and the output is generally lame, but it is also one of the friendlier fandoms around. like a retarded kid or a dumb dog or something. because of this, he comes off as a raaaaaaaaaaging prick who nonetheless writes good fanfiction/rp. but in any other fandom, he'd just be your average asshole fanboy with stuff no one cares about. that's why no one cares about him in, say, gundam 00 fandom, where a lot of people write better than him, but there are much bigger assholes to target.

Um. If you're referring to the like 2-page minific I did on a whim after episode 9/10, sure. I don't think I've really done anything else in that fandom unless I'm uh misremembering. I'll agree that the one ficlet wasn't particularly inspired in the least, but it's not like I'm very prolific there :P
