Reaper/Genji?? Genji/Reader is more popular than that.

And how is Genji/Mercy boring?? Genji/Zenyatta is way more predictable and cliche.

Spotted the offended Genji/Mercy fan.

I only ship Soldier 76 with various people. So, no.

>it's a Blander 76fag

Oh, so you just have no taste. Gotcha.

well both ships are boring and predictable imo and i like both, genyatta just does the tired old trope of the wounded one falling for the person who helps them heal "better" because it's gay and has an added bonus of robots.

arguing over overwatch shipping involves a lot of projection because all these characters have very little depth. it's best to avoid that sort of argument because everyone has different interpretations of these characters and their relationships.

NAYRT

Lol but that's basically exactly what Gency is minus the robots and gay. Genji is the wounded emo who falls for the beautiful blonde woman who saves him from certain death. It's so tropey I can barely believe it.

Not to mention I think you're waaaay overestimating the appeal of robots in fandom, and this is coming from someone who loves them. Genji/Zenyatta isn't more popular than it is most likely because of the whole 'robot' thing. Genji gets something of a pass from fandom because hot ass and human origin story, but Zenyatta is too inhuman for a lot of people to ship, despite the humanity of omnics being a big theme in canon.

Honestly I think it would be much more fascinating if Genji had complicated feelings of anger and shame regarding Mercy. Yeah he met Zenyatta and Zenyatta helped him somewhat come to terms with his new existence, but it's pretty clear he's got some anger issues stemming from that whole issue, and I can see where he might feel less-than-grateful towards the person who shoved him into the cyborg body he has without his permission.

lmao no it isn't.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-22 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
ya it is

(Anonymous) 2017-03-22 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Sure anon, there's tons of romantic fiction of male robots teaching a cyborg to love his new cyborganized body. Sure.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-22 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
bitch please it's not the concept that's boring it's the execution. it's run of the mill teacher/student saccharine fluff. miss me with it

(Anonymous) 2017-03-22 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
And why exactly is that a bad thing? Are you trying to imply the other Overwatch pairings are somehow getting high brow literature written about them and Genyatta is the only pairing that relies on some well-worn tropes?

Not to mention like anon above said, the concept is what keeps it from being standard teacher/student fluff. It has a lot of elements not commonly found in teacher/student pairings, from Genji being older than Zenyatta, to Zenyatta not being human, to Genji's past issues, and more. It's not exactly "run of the mill".

(Anonymous) 2017-03-22 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
genyatta is boring. all overwatch ships are boring. get over it lol

(Anonymous) 2017-03-22 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Who stuck gravel in your rectum? Why do you have such a hateboner for this topic? It's kind of pathetic.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-22 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)

(Anonymous) 2017-03-22 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Was there ever a fandom that genuinely was more interested in digging out the thematic, literary, interesting elements in a pairing rather than mostly doing Standard Fanfic Tropes?

not to say I don't love Standard Fanfic Tropes of course
