(Anonymous) 2017-03-23 06:19 am (UTC)(link)Time lapse tutorials aren't really tutorials at all unfortunately, but that's not something limited to Sakimichan in the least and despite what a few whiners on here seem to think I'm not out to hate on her specifically for every thing she ever does (I'm also not secret OP just to be clear). Time lapse tutorials are a lazy way for artists to monetize their work. You see it a lot on Youtube too. H.C. Brown on Youtube is someone who does it right in that she also narrates and gives tips and does more interactive tutorials, but time lapse stuff by itself is garbage unless you're looking for a very specific way a certain artist does something small, and even then a step-by-step tutorial is much more fruitful for actually learning if you'd like to actually be able to emulate something. :)
As for the fanart issue, I think it's pretty obvious people are joined up for the NSFW (and SFW) fanart rewards. Whether or not Patreon has found some legal way to possibly try to discourage smaller companies from taking artists to court over it is irrelevant to the actual heart of the matter. You can claim it's not direct monetary compensation but it's a pretty clear one-two system wherein the artist receives money and then releases the "product", regardless of how it's labeled.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-24 12:01 am (UTC)(link)In my teenage years, I got more serious about my art. In my quest to improve, I began to sound just like you. Ripping art apart for its flaws rather than appreciating it in its finished context. While looking at art with a critical eye certainly helped me improve in a technical sense (I am not dismissing technical skill by any means), it also ruined my ability to really enjoy art for a good long time. And not just the art of others, my own attempts at drawing became largely joyless, soulless. Focusing so much on the technical aspects of a piece too often killed them. After some years of this, I started to hate drawing. It was no fun for me anymore. How could it be when I had missed the forest for the trees.
Thankfully I've mellowed out over the years. I don't know if I'll ever enjoy drawing the way that I used to, but at least I can enjoy the art of others better these days.
So what if she isn't a Picasso? Her drawings are cute, colorful, light. They evoke images, feelings, things that lots of people want to experience. She takes you into the world of ones favorite characters in a different way. So what if the torso is a tad thin, or she accidentally mixed her light sources. I can see her enjoyment in her work, I can see how it brings others enjoyment. It is not nearly as bad as you are making it out to be, even by my eyes (which can still notice errors even if I no longer care as much about them)
Watching you so angrily complaining about her, it reminds me of how I used to be, and it makes me feel a bit sorry for you. That you can be so angry that someone out there is making a living doing something fun that lots of people enjoy. It's rather like the Grinch I think.
