The Oscars aren't intrinsically about anything. They're about whatever we decide they're about. There isn't actually any particular reason they have to be about acting ability in a vacuum, except that's the decision we've made. And from a detached point of view, I'm hard-pressed to see a reason why refusing to take moral issues into account actually is a materially better approach.

Of course, I agree that in practice the Oscars - and the film industry behind them - are not likely to actually start taking moral critiques into account. But it's still a completely valid critique, and a valid reason either to turn off the Oscars or to talk about how stupid they are.
