I haven't listened to it, but bf does, and I understand it's narrated by Jasika Nicole from Fringe? I quite like her, though I can see the girly.

Oh Gosh why did no one tell me that? She was great in Fringe, might have to check this out now

She's great in this too.

It's also just an incredibly well-written show; scary and romantic in equal measures.

Within the Wires, Greater Boston, and Ars Paradoxica might be more your speed? The latter two, especially, have the benefit of a cast rather than mainly one voice actor, and all have f/f relationships or explicitly lesbian characters. And The Strange Case of Starship Iris is new but has strong hints of a f/f relationship developing.

Not liking the main narrator's voice can absolutely be offputting, no matter how appealing a podcast might otherwise be.

For me, in Alice isn't Dead, it's both that I don't like the voice actress and I can't stand the creator of the whole thing.

I pretty much dropped all the Nightvale family of podcasts when Joseph Fink decided to defend his third party vote by accusing other people of antisemitism. Frankly, I don't think much of value was lost beyond Within The Wires

I had stopped listening to Nightvale for some time when a friend asked me to come to a live show. So I did and ... I really didn't regret dropping it. Fink just rubs me the wrong way, I think he seems so incredibly pretentious and "holier than thou" in a massively cringey way.

I don't know if it's "internalised misogyny" but tbh I do think it's fucking weird how many women hate the sound of obviously feminine voices and speech patterns.
I'm not saying you hate women, or you've been ~brainwashed by society~. I just refuse to be self conscious about my voice and accent.

I enjoyed Alice Isn't Dead, but I have to admit that the character's voice sometimes feel like less of a trucker and more like a college student.

Didn't make me enjoy the podcast less, but it does threw me off sometimes.

I get what you're saying about Jasika Nicole sounding so young, but that kinda makes it more interesting to me. For me, her sounding so young gives the entire podcast more weight, makes it more tragic. Like a "she's too young to have gone through all of this" kind of thing.

I've never even heard of the other podcast in your secret. But having looked it up, it sounds like something I might like, so thanks. :)

I couldn't listen to Alice Isn't Dead either, OP. And I loved Jasika Nicole on Fringe. I knew she was the voice actress, but I didn't like how she chose to perform it. I just couldn't listen. I would love to see more female driven audio dramas too.
