I feel like there's a huge difference between 'it's your fault x happened to you' and 'please take reasonable precautions to keep yourself safe because there are bad people in the world'.

Of course it's always the perpetrator's choice to do something heinous, but having the common sense to know that bad people do bad things, so don't walk down a dark alley at 3am if you can help it isn't bad advice...
