72. Holyjeesus, I thought I was the only one. I like the series' current direction as well, even though it makes my loathing towards Itachi feel completely pointless.

I wouldn't call your loathing pointless. As a Troper over at tvtropes pointed out, Itachi still did unspeakably horrible things to his brother. Yes, he did for good reasons, but do the ends justify the means? I certainly have more sympathy for him now (as opposed to the outright antipathy I had for his character before), but I still think that disliking him is 100% justified.

Well, yes. But still, because he turned out to be a good guy, it feels a bit weird. Even though he ruined Sasuke's life in hopes of protecting him.
I have way more sympathy for him too, now.

I feel a bit bad that none of my friends like Naruto enough, so I have no one to fan this with. :(

If it makes you feel any better, I think that Itachi is a worse human being now than he's ever been. I just hate the recent developments because that's clearly not what Kishimoto was shooting for, and because it erases the only two seconds in which itachi was almost cool.

Ahahah, that page. I thought it was completely hilarious.

Well, I may not be that sharp, but I think Kishimoto was planning it from the start. Itachi is still a fuckface, because he still ruined Sasuke's life, even though he did it to protect him. :/

I mean, it was pretyt hilarious, but:

1. Those were the most expressive faces Kishimoto had drawn in a LONG time. Art degradation, you hurt me.

2. It at once gave Itachi an actual motivation (something he'd badly lacked), and made him a low-grade magnificent bastard in one fell swoop.

Kishimoto doubtless had this planned all along, but I dared to hope that that would remain. Sadly, no.
