[Jake Lloyd, Star Wars]

Oh, I didn't know what he has gone through. Poor guy, I hope he has had proper care! Does he still live in Hollywood? It's such a toxic place that he'd probably better off somewhere else.

And I agree with you one the part he played. The writing and the directing was so absymal even the adult actors were struggling. I tend to give child actors more leeway to begin with, but when you're basically climbing un uphill THAT steep, it really isn't his fault.

I think he lives in Indiana in a psychiatric facility? (this was in April 2016) he also attacked his mum 3 months before getting arrested (reckless driving, driving without a license, and resisting arrest) which was all due to him failing to take his psychiatric medication and his struggles with it.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay. I didn't realize he was in a psychiatric facility. Now I feel sorry for his mom too. :(

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn, that's sad. :( It's good he's getting help for his condition, though.

He was definitely bad enough to be an incomprehensible choice considering the vast number of kids that auditioned, but I mean, that wasn't his fault, and the way fandom has dogpiled him has been pretty tasteless at times.

Hah, fitting icon!

Many kid actors are bad at acting due to their age, so I don't think Lloyd stands out that way...but for a movie of this magnitude, with such an extensive net cast? It's disappointing they cast him when he wasn't able to perform to the standard of other movies starring young children -- Lion comes to mind; Sunny Pawar was, what, 4-5? He absolutely blew the movie out of the water with his performance. And I know people roll their eyes a lot at Shyamalan, but I thought Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense was a great casting choice; I remember him in ways I don't even remember Bruce Willis (whom I recall merely Bruce-Willis-ing all over the place).

Bruce Willis (whom I recall merely Bruce-Willis-ing all over the place).

That. Is such a good line.

Oh my god, poor guy...

I never understood the criticism of his acting? Like, he was an adorable kid. Kid actors don't have to be good, but even so, I don't get the standard they are held to sometimes. Kids in real life don't always express themselves in the same way an adult would naturally. It honestly never occurred to me that he was a noticeably bad actor. I think he did fine in the role, I really liked him when I first watched the movie.

Same here. I was a teenager at the time, no real issue with his acting, thought he was adorable and likeable. He seemed very sympathetic to me. He was bullied a lot at his school for being in the movie and "bad acting" (totally adults fault too, bc kids mostly repeated what they heard.) Wonder how much of this affected his mental health; and it's still a "joke."

Yeah...I actually heard he even got bullied at cons. By adults. Like wtf.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That is so disgusting. Like, I don't care if you hated the movie, you fucking be nice to kids. I'm sure he must've been so excited to get the role, too, and to be in Star Wars, and then to be bullied by adults? How awful..

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
He was. I remember the exact Star Wars Insider magazine that had his interview about when he got cast, back when hype for Episode 1 was started to build. Paraphrasing, he said that he cried and ran around the house in sheer joy.

I still think about that part, whenever people get nasty about him.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the saddest thing...

Whaaaaat.

Like I wasn't a fan of kid!Anakin but like that's not the child actor's fault, jfc. Also you can dislike a character without being a dick to the actual actor.

Also you can dislike a character without being a dick to the actual actor.

This. I honestly don't understand why that's such a hard concept for some people to grasp.

Yeah, and it was the kid who played young Boba Fett who was telling this at a con...so, I sort of believe it, you know? that people would just flat out tell him he's part of what ruined Star Wars for them, or something.

I feel bad for him because of his mental health issues but being a kid is not really an excuse for shitty acting. Some kids can act.
P.S. he was only in that movie because he was George Lucas' kid's friend.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The saddest part is that he was at least as good in the role as Hayden Christensen. Hayden just got extra credit for being shippable.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-28 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Nah.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-28 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yah. In the right lighting, Planky McWooden's dead, soulless eyes almost looked slightly alive when he was around Ewan McGregor. You've got to really stretch to call that acting, though.

lol

(Anonymous) 2017-03-28 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
so you actually mean to say that in hindsight the casting was pretty accurate to the character after all?

Damn, that's awful. :( And yeah, he was just a kid for goodness sake. If Ewan McGregor could end up being terrible in the movie then Lloyd didn't have much of a chance.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-29 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope that George Lucas is helping him out.
