I once said that I preferred Gawker to Breitbart. The first person to respond said that was like choosing between gonorrhea and syphilis.

Isn't the choice pretty clear between gonorrhea and syphilis though?

Yes, but the point of a statement like that isn't that it's an ambiguous choice. It's that even the good choice is something bad.

haha. Breitbart is an extremely low bar though. Like......pretty much the lowest.

Nah, there are tons of sites that make Breitbart look unbiased in comparison. It's a vast and scary world out there: https://medium.com/hci-design-at-uw/information-wars-a-window-into-the-alternative-media-ecosystem-a1347f32fd8f

Not a lot that has the same visibility as Breitbart, I don't think. But I'm also just not super versed in the alt-right news scene, which is probably better for my sanity.

Gawker is miles better than Breitbart.

I had to google what each of these were (celeb gossip blogs?), but this gave me a good laugh.

Gawker has become much better now that the Gawker page itself and Denton are gone.

...I can kinda see it. CLAMP writes as if it's cute and normal for an adult man to be "in love with" an elementary schooler. Kodomo no Jikan goes really hard on things like the importance of setting appropriate boundaries as an expression of care, and how if a child is acting out sexually it's a sign of trauma, rather than an excuse to take advantage (or, for that matter, a moral failing on the kid's part).

The ending is squicky as hell, even as a flashforward when everyone involved is an adult. But if you make like Bunny Drop fandom and fervently pretend that part didn't happen, there's a lot to like about the rest.

I think for me the difference is that the CLAMP relationship was more of a side thing and not the main point/characters of the series where as all I've heard about Jikan is about the student and teacher so I never bothered to pick it up.

CCS in the anime also downplayed it considerably which was great. CLAMP definitely has some weird relationships in their writing history but at least Sakura and Syaoran as the main ship are cute as hell and age appropriate.

Re: Rika/Terada... oh yeah... Rika/Terada... I went to google Terada's age (I thought he was in his early 20's at least) and the wiki says he's in his mid-30's. Rika is 10yo. I know Clamp love = true love forever and ever and they will be attached by the hip even beyond the grave in spirit but Clamp... dudettes.... At least make her a bit more legal before you make them start dating.

I sorta remember reading a bit of KnJ but it wasn't my thing so I dropped it quite fast. But I do remember the teacher being at least not being comfortable with the little girl pretty much throwing herself at him. It still had things that I wasn't comfortable with either (like the girls wearing negligees and selling their pictures on the internet, I think?). It's been a long time but yeah, I get what you're saying.
