Modern Family?

That was my first guess. I feel like Mitch and Cam would honestly have been better as a new couple, if nothing else - because then their issues with communicating would be part of two very different people starting a relationship.

I actually had the same issue with Gloria and Jay when I first started watching the show, although in their case they stopped being awkward after the first season. It just felt like they were still learning about each other.

(Although I don't watch the show anymore, so I can't speak to either couple in the last few seasons.)

This was my thought too, but I think the Modern Family gay couple is supposed to be actually gay and not pretending to be for laughs/as a gross-out.

AYRT

In the early seasons I did get the impression that Mitch was gay more as a reaction to his father and his upbringing than because he was actually born that way. I don't get the impression anymore, though.

And the clown wig in the secret makes it seem obvious.

why would you get that impression?

I don't really watch the show but it seems too genuine/heartfelt and OP says they're "dating for homophobic laughs". I don't think a married couple with a kid would fit. Even with the clown wig.

NAYRT, but I kinda misread that part, I thought OP was just saying that was how the couple was written (as opposed to believing that was the truth behind the scenes).
