Jamie/Layla from X-Factor. I like the idea, but hate the execution. The ship was forced as hell and Layla was never more than a manic pixie dream girl.

That was awful, and I didn't even like the idea.

I never read it, but I've read about it, and it sounds like PAD went way off the deep end with both of those characters even before he put them together.

Pretty much. At first I loved the private dick business Madrox was putting together, but in the end the whole thing was just... no.

The first 30 issues were so good. The series was interesting and unique. By the end it turned into an almost typical superhero series.

He had plans for the pairing since the very beginning of the series. Within the first issues Layla (who knows stuff about the future) says they are going to be married. And it's not too bad when Layla is still a teenager. She makes a few jabs here and there and he treats her mostly like a kid. But when she gets lost in the future (normal X-Men bullshit), she suddenly becomes this beacon of hope for Jamie and it just goes to shot when older Layla and Jamie get reunited.

I just feel like PAD thought he had a super clever idea that he just had to go through with it. See also Lorna's new backstory.
