(Anonymous) 2017-04-01 03:00 am (UTC)(link)...From there, things go pear-shaped as everyone else finds out what happened (this is required - why have all the tension and build up without any consequences?). The villain can either see the heroine as nothing but a pawn and she struggles to put herself back together and faces him down at the end, or the villain has found that he's grown attached to her and, while she's struggling with her own angst, he's desperately searching for a solution that almost certainly does not exist.
It's ridiculously cliche and full of Unfortunate Implications about men and women alike, but it's one of my favorites.
