This gay celebrity is a upper class white man, he can take some faggot mockery.

This fat celebrity is a upper class woman, she can take some fat jokes.

Etc.

Having your name made fun of is not the same as being part of a minority group or some other group that is often looked down upon. This comparison doesn't work because you can be a rich celeb and be a minority, but Benedict is not a minority and is not being made fun of for being a minority.

No. He's being made for of for having an unusual name. Which is dumb all the same.

What I mean is, you are equating jokes about someones name to jokes about sexuality and weight. Think about that equation - do you think it is a correct viewpoint?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-02 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, yes?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-02 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I respect you for your consistency, but I also think that this is a very dumb position and that you are extremely wrong

Like, just on a basic level, sexuality and weight are things that are on axes of oppression in a way that names aren't (especially in the case of Cumberbatch, where his name is - if anything - a marker of historical privilege - it's not like we're talking about someone from a non-Western immigrant culture who's being marked out as an other). Ergo, it is not a good comparison.
