I guess I only care if he cares. Does he care?

People have never stopped getting my name wrong my entire life - not purposefully to tease me, they just couldn't be bothered to read all the letters and try - it's something I had accepted and made peace with by the time I hit puberty.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he's been razzed about/had people misterpret his name for most all his life.

Seriously? Because I think that objectively speaking, it's merely a slightly odd-sounding name. It's the combination of his fame, appearance, poshness, and alleged sex symol status that makes the whole thing a meme.

nayrt but it's really only odd sounding if you're not familiar with traditional English names? not saying he was never made fun of in school, but it's mostly old-fashioned sounding, not weird.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-01 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's basically my point.

Er, no - English as the day is long and pretty traditional here but that combination of sounds an numbers of syllables is very unusual. We usually go for shortfirstname longsurname or the other way round, six syllable names including all those B's does NOT trip lightly off the tongue.

Honestly? Probably not. It's not that unusual or difficult a name, and it's pronounced exactly the way it's spelled. Benedict is a little old-fashioned, but I doubt he was the only kid in his posh boarding school with a stuffy sounding name.

As a child he did care, he talks about it here in the first five minutes. By now he's used to it.
