That seems like a long time for two kanji. Were they really big?

10 cm both of them together, but very intricate. And solid black. Line art with a bit of shadowing would have been much much faster.

Well, every artist is different. I know my SO has been tattooing for so long, he's gotten really fast at pretty much everything. He won't do Celtic knotwork anymore, though - he hates it.
