I have an impression that Jim Lovell had a huge part in advising the movie, so it had info straight from the man himself. Also, both he and his wife had cameos in the movie. Marylin Lovell is very miss-able because she was ina crowd scene but Jim Lovell played a senior naval officer on the ship that picked up the astronauts.

Quick look on Wikipedia - the movie was based on a book Lovell wrote about his experiences.
