I saw - during a FB video - the WHM Gang (because for some reason I only knew what Eric looked like???) and was kind of floored by how similar Andrew and Chris look.

I can't speak to podcasters because I don't listen to any podcasts, but I'm definitely this way about people I "know" online. For some reason I always assume everyone is good looking and feel surprised when someone turns out to just be "average" or whatever.

I guess maybe it's because I have a job that basically requires everyone to be good looking, and it just sort of becomes the new normal after a while. IDK.

Ugh, okay, so I may as well acknowledge the inherent humble-braginess of this statement before someone else does.

lmao yeah. It was unnecessary. I bet they aren't even as attractive as they think.

No, the people I work with truly are just a good looking bunch. I mean, it ranges from above-average to drop dead gorgeous, but probably ten percent do modeling on the side. I am not one of that 10%, for the record.

This comes across as rather judgmental and, agreed 'humble bragging'. "Everyone I work with is sooo good looking." What job 'requires' people to be good looking? Modelling is the only one that come to mind... maybe acting... but what about the people 'behind the scenes? Are all the camera operators hot? What about character actors?

I'm dubious about a job which requires people to be 'good looking'.

I do Background, and it's weird but it's true. There are almost no "plain" people in BG. They don't get taken on by the agencies, or if they do the agency only gets them a few days work per year. I quickly lost count of how many already good-looking people I've talked to who started dieting and became self conscious about their looks and style after starting BG work because being surrounded by good looking people all the time messes with your perception of what's normal. Think what you want about it; I'm merely stating a fact of the industry niche I work in - It makes a 14 hour day seem normal and it makes good-looking seem average. *shrugs*

Not even necessarily for people online for me, but I feel similar when someone I know talks about their friend or acquaintance who I never met or seen pictures of. I don't necessarily picture everyone as "good looking", but I get mental images of these people in my head when I have no idea what they actually look like.

What is this job that requires people to be good-looking?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-04 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
I listen to a lot of comedy podcasts and I'm already attracted to their sense of humour and their brains so I have the opposite reaction, I think - I find a lot of them pretty hot when I see what they look like.
