I find her most interesting in the first drafts (before Tolkien started her down the road of Mary Sue) when she was still a kinslayer. That definitely makes her a much more interesting character, and actually makes sense with what's written in LOTR.

My take here is that - totally disregarding the causes and reasons it happens - it is a good and cool thing to pump up people that way and make sure they're visible, especially from minority groups and such.
