My take here is that - totally disregarding the causes and reasons it happens - it is a good and cool thing to pump up people that way and make sure they're visible, especially from minority groups and such.

I think the point they're making involves that this isn't really anything new or specific to minority groups. In that regard, she's receiving equal treatment, regardless of if that treatment is fair at all, since that's a different issue.

I think the most important thing to consider is how she feels about it. If she hasn't said she wants people to stop calling her Moana, other people should stop speaking for her.

i feel like i've definitely seen clips of her on the runway calling people out and deliberately stating her name

I think her being associated with Moana is less the problem and more people not attempting to pronounce her harder to pronounce name. Like, irl I have a difficult to pronounce, obviously not English last name and the amount of people who conspicuously avoid saying it, or worse, butcher it despite me telling them how to say it, is very noticeable.

If you told them how to say it and they still butcher it, it's shitty to blame them. Lots of people have honest trouble with new words and names and it's not a choice they can just correct right away even if they try.

Jodi Benson, but I only know her name because there some sort of remarks or something about gay rights.

I don't know who voiced Belle, Pocahontas, or Mulan, though I probably did at one point. I remember Robbie Benson was the Beast and Christopher Daniel Barnes was Eric and Mel Gibson was John Smith and now I'm wondering why they got famous/semi-famous male actors to do the voices.

I can't, but I'm also not a red carpet reporter working an event that the chick who voiced Ariel is attending, or a gossip writer working on a headline who has an infinite amount of time to look up said name using Google

My name is Natalia and it is usually butchered or defaulted to Natalie. It sucks but the reality is the average person does not care or just has too much trouble with foreign names. This will never change.
