I'm really lucky. I live in a city with amazing libraries & a lot of used book stores.

I second the person who rec'd betterworldbooks.com, but I also suggest hpb.com (Half Price Books) & thriftbooks.com for when you have money. Do you have any thrift stores in your area?

I know the author gets nothing if you buy used, but many people simply can't afford to buy first hand.

I'm not big on ebooks, sorry I can't help you with that, OP. I just know that Amazon runs a lot of Kindle book sales.
