Marijuana

I can't believe that pot is still illegal and in the same category as drugs like heroin, while alcohol exists.

Did you see yesterday's Last Week Tonight, by any chance?

Haha, mte!

That was a fantastic segment. I don't use pot myself (though I fully support its legalization), so that segment was eye-opening in many ways and I learned a lot through it. It's bullshit that people still have to go through those hurdles.

(I think that segment also further added to the importance of improving our healthcare system in general, so that the people who are using pot for various mental and physical health issues can use that in connection with other necessary treatments that could help them, too.)

It should be 100% legal and regulated, I agree, but I also want to note the reality of current efforts to legalize it.

I agree, but it's not that surprising when you consider the racism and classism behind marijuana prohibition laws, and how much money alcohol and pharmaceutical companies make.

Not to mention private prisons!

Yep. :(

+1

In the US, even in places where it was legalized the disproportionate ways it was treated criminally is still effecting the industry there (because people with prior drug charges are in many cases barred from attempting to enter the industry legally.)

Eh, I wouldn't class it on the same level as alcohol, personally. Pretty much everyone can have one drink and it's not going to fuck you up, but you can try marijuana once and it CAN fuck you up - maybe not permanently, but it can be an incredibly unpleasant and/or frightening experience. One of my friends tried pot once and she spent the next couple of hours having really bad panic attacks because apparently she doesn't react well to it.

And I know people who only needed one beer to become a complete fucked up mess. Your experience is not universal.

You forgot to say "eh".

that's not a pro-weed argument, it's an anti-alcohol one
