Pretty sure Capaldi announced he was leaving months before the new companion was cast. Not sure why you would think his leaving would be related to this.

He has also played gay characters before.

He said in a recent interview he never wanted to reach the point where he was phoning it in. It's a demanding role so props to him.

When he took the role he said he would only do it for a few years because the show's success depends on it being Doctor Who, not The [Insert Star's Name Here] Show.

I'm thinking the OP is not British - it's pretty hard to be so homophobic you would leave a job in the British acting scene I would have thought.
