Aww, I really like the idea of a blonde Celegorm (just for aestethical reasons, I really don't care for him). Maybe it's because so far I've only read the italian translation of the Silmarillion, where "the Fair" becomes "il Chiaro" ("the Light-coloured"). I get that in english the word has a double meaning, but it just can't click for me because of that.

There are several popular headcanons for character looks that I don't care for. I agree about Celegorm, especially since hair color is so big for the Elves and Feanor hated Indis so much. It just feels like it would be a plot-point.

don't know the character, just here to say that that is gorgeous art.

I agree that Celegorm is probably not meant to be blond, but in my personal headcanon, he's blond. (and resembles David Beckham. Just sayin.)

...David Beckham? Wut?

I mean, I don't really know exactly how these characters were supposed to look, in terms of facial features and so on, but I really didn't imagine them as middle aged chavs with wrinkled foreheads, trendy hair, and tacky beards. I guess my head-canon didn't put people like that in middle-earth.

That's why it's MY head canon.

You do you. I'll do me.

I genuinely LOLed. And I agree, but eh, different strokes for different folks.

"Fair " and "fair of face" can mean attractive or pale skinned. It doesn't have to involve hair at all.

There is his Old English name that supports a tow-headed interpretation, but sure, it's by no mean conclusive. I like blond Celegorm purely for reasons related to getting some visual diversity in fan art. Telling Feanor's middle sons apart would be even more of a pain without this tripe.

I have to agree, the idea that one son in Fëanor's brood would pop out as a blond when his whole damn bloodline is dark hair and auburn redheads always struck me as wrong. I do find the constant association of the word "fair" with "light-coloured" in the English-speaking world to be a bit short-sighted, as it does have more than one meaning when applied to people's appearance.

Lúthien probably got called "fair" too, but people never mistake her as being blonde, probably because the solidly dark-haired Arwen gets associated with her.
