What canceled show do you think ended too early?

Other than Firefly.

Criminal Minds Suspect Behavior

There was a lot of bad blood because of the shit the production company pulled on the mothership. Also, they clearly reordered the episodes so the season didn't start out strong. But, the end of the season was excellent. They were really getting a groove. It's certainly lightyears better than Beyond Borders. I think it definitely deserved a second season at least.

I like that they wrapped it up, but I would have preferred more seasons!

I am still mad that Shiina Dark got killed just as the plot was kicking up. It was bizarrely feminist for an ecchi series, and I loved how it focused on women who for one reason or another were unwanted or disposable. (The plot was about one thousand women and female children, originally intended as sacrifices to a demon, founding an independent nation.)

Outcasts, one of the more intelligent science fiction shows I've seen in the last several years. Unfortunately, it took way too long to really spin up its premise.

Jeeves and Wooster. it wasn't from a lack of material, Wodehouse wrote a zillion of the original stories.

Galavant. I know the ratings weren't there to keep it going, but it was so fucking awesome. C'mon, live stage show adaptation!

Terriers, GCB, Forever, Happy Endings, Galavant, Pushing Daisies, Common Law, Believe, Benched...there have been so many shows I loved that got canceled too soon, I know I'm forgetting a ton.

And I guess it doesn't count since it has ended yet and I don't know that it was technically "canceled" but Broadchurch is ending after this season and it makes me really sad. :(

Invader Zim, I think it still had plenty of untapped weirdness to keep going with.

Though on that, there's a movie coming! I hope it is a Samurai Jack 'reboot' and not a Powerpuff Girls.

I really liked Grandfathered and I'm really annoyed it ended on a cliffhanger.

faking it

yeah, the idea they had for the later seasons was stupid, but dumping it midway through a season after that second season stupid "mid season break that lasts twelve months" thing was still annoying

Alphas.

It started off as, basically, "the show Heroes...except actually good." The characters were all interesting, the real-life implications of their super-powers were all plausible and handled well, and it had David Strathairn playing a non-superpowered mentor figure to the group, Dr. Rosen (and I love David Strathairn). At some point, I noticed that the writers were really talented at working "character building moments" into the plots in a really cool, organic way -- like, usually procedural TV episodes confine these moments to the opening and closing acts, but this show was really masterful in weaving those moments into the dialogue so that you learn something new about the characters throughout each hour and not through an info-dump but through their behavior or character dynamics.

Like, it was neat to me that you could see how all the characters saw Dr. Rosen as a parent-figure in some way, but no one ever came out and said that -- it was revealed in little moments and gestures, like how the women on the team would get protective of him in physically dangerous situations, like the way you would be attentive to your father as he walked on a slippery sidewalk, but you wouldn't be toward your boss.

The entire second season was an emotional wringer -- I got super invested in Dr. Rosen, and his character arc that season took him into some really dark places that had me wringing my hands and feeling like, "I love you so much but STOP. STOOOOPPPP. But....I LOVE YOU EVEN MORE NOW." Every episode was more and more emotionally fraught, and then the season ended on a terrible cliffhanger, and there was no word on whether it had been renewed for a third season, and weeks or months went by with silence from the network, and we all were like, "It has to be renewed, right????" But, lo, it was not renewed, and that in fact was the last we would hear of the story, and now we will never know what happens to Dr. Rosen. OH my poor heart.

It's a good show, though, you should watch it.

Constantine. At least word of god about where they were going to go with the cliffhanger would be nice.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I am literally never getting over this one. Ever. That said...part of me loves that it never had a chance to go down hill, so I will always be able to look back on it and adore it without caveats. And I love that there wasn't any closure, too. It made the cancellation even more painful, but in the long run, it's a good pain.

God, I can't even think about this show without starting to wring my hands and whimper internally about how much I loved the characters and their long, beautiful, ambiguous arcs. *sobs*
