The finale had Hera touch Kanan's arm so it's now OVER NINE THOUSAND PERCENT SECRETLY CANON.

Strangely enough, the many times he and Ezra have full on hugged, or Sabine and he have full on hugged do not count towards making those pairings secretly canon, any touch between any characters other than Kanan and Hera is 100% platonic and would be INCEST if it was romantic (ew ew ew ew problematic!!!!!) but anything with them sharing the same screen is.. you know, even more proof that there are three thousand hybrid fanbabies lurking just off screen that evil Disney censors won't let them make officially canon instead of SeCrEtLy canon.

I've only recently gotten into the fandom so I was really surprised by the reaction to the finale. Like, I thought everyone assumed they were together. The interest is explicit in the book, and she calls him love in the pilot. They're clearly the mom and dad of the family. But, the shippers were acting like their ship had finally gotten validation after YEARS of waiting, and they'd put up with so much grief for not shipping something that wasn't canon??? Or was crack or something?? I didn't realize the Kanan/Hera shippers felt so abused.

The thing is, the creators have specified it's not canon. Kanan's a jedi, his attraction to her was part of his rejecting the Temple's teachings but once he started using the Force again he gave that up. They said specifically that the pet names were to show they'd been working together the longest and were platonic.

It's the Destiel or Johnlock of SWR and the cycle of "This time it's FINALLY confirmed to be REAL they just said those things because Disney MADE THEM."

Replying to myself, I hope it never becomes canon too. The shippers are nasty. Like there's people who go through all the other meager ship tags to comment on or send messages that you can't ship Hera with Ahsoka or Kanan with Seventh Sister because HERA AND KANAN ARE AN ITEM. Direct quote there. And it's just too small a fandom to really handle a lot of ship police. Like it's to the point I don't even want to commission any Hera and Ahsoka art because I know the artist will get harassed so badly and I can't do that to an artist I like.

Well, I've never seen any mention of it not being canon and I don't think word-of-god is enough to throw a fit over. And it IS canon that Kanan was interested in her. That's more than a lot of ships get.

If they wanted to go with the bit of canon that he was interested in her and she wasn't interested in him back before the show started that's fine. They're perfectly welcome to ship whatever they want. But it's as canon as Reylo and trying to harass other fans for shipping anything else or for not including it in meta is just annoying.

I mean for a while there was a big hissy fit because the novelizations talk about the two of them just being good friends. Darn those Disney censors, striking again.
