I'm enjoying Goodbye to Halos. It's a fantasy story about a young trans woman building a new life for herself. The neighborhood where she lives is full of people who've been abandoned or rejected, and a lot of them are queer. http://www.goodbyetohalos.com/comic/prologue-1/

Personally, I can't get over the colours of this comic. But that's a matter of personal taste.

Hey, at least it's better than Floraverse.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Had to google that. Shouldn't have done it. Ouch, my eyes.

There's also a fucktonne of non-inclusive, etc, etc, things in every medium that are stupid and boring af, and things that are incidentally inclusive that are extremely entertaining. Inclusivity [sp?] was never a guarantee of a good story. Neither is filling a story with American middle class straight nominally Christian white guys. Wanting to see a thing in a story that reflects the real world is not the only thing a good story hinges on, it's just a factor among many that potentially helps it along a little.

I desperately, desperately wish I liked Cucumber Quest. The art is PRECIOUS, and I do like the characters a lot, but the story and pacing is just... so dull and boring that I genuinely can't keep reading it. I keep having to go back and re-read parts because I just glazed over while trying. I finally gave up, and it breaks my heart a little.

OP

This are my feelings exactly regarding all of the three comics in the secret. I feel so frustrated, I love the art and characters, but the storytelling and pacing are just dull.
Agents look great and I love the chars and the setting, but I don't feel any connection or friendship between the main cast. Monsterkind feels like the artist just likes her "yaoiz" and likes drawing her OCs with different expressions so we get pages and pages of them blushing at each other and no story progress. And CQ - same as you said - just boring, and I read CQ in one go, without waiting for updates. I'm on page 150+ now and I don't want to continue since nothing interesting really happened.

THANK YOU.

The art is all the goddamn same, too.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
what do you mean by that? looking @ the comic sampled in the secret, they're all very distinct styles.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
There seem to be a lot of very well-drawn webcomics that end up being really draggy to read week to week. I have a pretty high tolerance for it though - I follow a lot of webcomics so it's not like every single one has to be an exciting update every week. I quite like Cucumber Quest, the art and characters are charming enough to make up for times when the story is slow. Monsterkind is okay, not great, but I haven't given up on it yet. What's the one on the left?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I agree with you on MonsterKind it is REALLY dragging it's feet. And i could never get into Agents of the Realm because I thought the storytelling was the worst I've ever seen. Can't agree with you on Cucumber Quest, though, I find that one cute enough to make up for the plodding pace it's on atm. And I think it is kinda helped by the artist releasing it as multiple pages now.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I agree about Cucumber Quest. Since the updates became multi-page it's easier to remember/re-figure out context, instead of having just one contextless page that's forgotten by the time the next one comes around.

I haven't read the other two, but Cucumber Quest is a lot of fun! The art style looks good, the lighthearted and generally humorous tone means that when something serious happens, it actually has an impact.

I mean, if it's not to your taste, it's not to your taste, but I really enjoy it. Although I prefer to go to the site about once a month and catch up on a whole bunch at once.

(Also, "progressive, modern webcomic"? Yeah, I suppose it's got some lgbt characters, but I'm confused about why you'd say that like it's the focus of the comic. It's a fantasy videogame parody!)

Didn't you know? The only reason anybody would put Teh Gheys in a webcomic if for SJW brownie points. /sarcasm

Yeah, compared to the other two I guess CQ is not all that inclusive (though it's still better in this sense than a lot of other comics out there), but it's definitely progressive since a lot of the thropes it defies are the old "guy is the hero, girl is the princess" ones and sexist-toned stuff like that. Also it has a lot of good female characters (but maybe that is "not inclusive enough" anymore? idk).
Not to say it's a bad thing! I'm just frustrated all of this is not enough to grab me.

Can I ask what the comic on the left is? I know about the other two

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
agents of the realm

Thank you!

i havent read agents of the realm, but monsterkind fucking sucks and is the most milquetoast bullshit story about fake racism by a white girl ever. cucumber quest is absolutely fantastic, though.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Never read the left one, love Cucumber Quest (although is it really that inclusive? There's Rosemaster and I think a gay side character, but other than that??)
Monsterkind though... it could be good if she'd focus on the conspiracy and mystery side, but there's just so much "Ah! Kip wants to fuck Briggs but is moe about it!" and when you barely update, moving the plot only every 10th strip is dreadful pacing.
