Cabin in the woods failed as a horror movie in its own right, and failed as a parody of horror movies. It had a "twist" that even Muh Night Shyamalan would find hackneyed and dull.

Yes, because a cliched not-quite deconstruction of horror tropes half-justified by a very veiled take that to the audience and that ends with the main characters deciding that everyone on earth should die because fuck you scientists is SO difficult to get.
