Basically.

Bet you'll change your mind when you see that good ol Joss has cast a tiny white woman to play Batgirl

actually this made me think of Anna Kendrick playing Batgirl and you know what, i would watch that

dangerous questions lead us down dangerous paths

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhhh, yes, Whedon and his love for tiny white women...

He might shatter the mold and cast a tiny half-Asian instead.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
But Buffy is basically Supernatural Batgirl.

I would kind of be disappointed in a Batgirl movie that was just Buffy with Batman costumes

I need more

Is Barbara Gordon that similar to Buffy Summers? I'm no Batman expert but that doesn't seem right to me.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
But if Joss Whedon doesn't do Batgirl, we're going to miss out on seeing another petite actress who can kick ass and throw down clever one-liners!

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
...is there a director lately that DOESN'T make the Marvel characters underwhelming, male or female? The movies have been dull for ages.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Post-Phase 1, I would say the Russo brothers, James Gunn, and Peyton Reed. So basically, comedy directors.

I dunno. Chris Pratt was pretty much perfect casting for Star Lord. Ditto Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. And now Cate Blanchett as Hela, hot damn!

Given the turbulent history of DC film productions, I'm not counting on it even happening yet. And it he leaves the project, they'll maybe get some other guy who's done one movie.

True. There's already rumors that, what is that one with The Rock, Shazam? - may have been cancelled to put the character in MoS 2.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, remember when he was going to write and direct the Wonder Woman movie?

Agreed. But also, A+ on font and color and general secret making.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-12 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I mean, other than the Natasha romance out of nowhere in AoU (which I personaly didn't mind), I don't see what he did that was so bad?

Also, Disney takes control of a lot of what happens in the movies as well.

Right there with you, OP. It's disappointing how often I'm disappointed - because that would imply I had some sort of expectation, which is incredibly naive.

I got zero problem with Whedon's female characters, and think the outrage is pretty overblown. Zoe from Firefly is one of my all time favorite characters.

If he would stop recycling 1980s action girl cliches and expecting feminist cookies for them then it wouldn't be so bad. He's just reached the point in his career when he doesn't know how to do anything new. Although to be fair he reached that point about 17 years ago and has been skating ever since.

If it wasn't for Firefly being touted as the posterchild for lost masterpieces cut short by heartless executives (lucky coincidence, for him, of audience getting tired of the two episodes then cut trend and him being the big name with a fledgingy-internet loud fanbase rather than the show actually being any good) then his career would have crashed and burned ages ago. It was that heroic failure that allowed him to revamp his own brand, and keep his internet fanbase casting him as a martyr to big heartless studios, to keep his name in the limelight. Business acumen, maybe, but not storytelling talent or cinematographic talent. His writing and directing style is really rather bland and pedestrian. A little bit of talent for late 80s action girl fight scenes and able to come up with some clever sounding quips, but that is about it.

I think the reaction to Whedon possibly taking over it has been over the top, like Avengers was a solid comic adventure film and I think he could do well with Batgirl.

In any case, I don't see how he would be worse then the current DC movies we've had.

Can someone explain to me what the big problem Wheadon supposedly has with female characters is? I haven't noticed any difference between them and his male characters. They're all fairly inconsistent but it seems like "it's different because women" more than anything else.

So which 'verse will this be in?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-13 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Recent movie 'verse (Batman vs Superman), a new, different movie 'verse, the Gotham 'verse, Arrowverse, or, Nolan's 'verse (I know this is unlikely, but the movies did do well)? And now I'm wondering how many simultaneous projects can go on before the market reaches saturation.
