I think the reaction to Whedon possibly taking over it has been over the top, like Avengers was a solid comic adventure film and I think he could do well with Batgirl.

In any case, I don't see how he would be worse then the current DC movies we've had.

"better than the current DC movies" is a bar so low as to be completely meaningless

The Avengers was pretty solid, but Age of Ultron fell really flat. I'd prefer to hand Batgirl over to another director, Whedon isn't the only popcorn flick director in Hollywood and he's got enough on his plate.

Age of Ultron is also what I think made Whedon decide to leave Marvel because there was a lot of direction being taken away from him to serve Disney/Marvel/the overall universe.

Granted I don't know why he'd want to go back to DC because I would doubt it'd be any better (I can only think they might be giving him a great offer because their movies have not been critical successes and the first Avengers was pretty well received) and I wouldn't say he's the perfect choice but I don't think he's worst case scenario either.
