Attack on Titan Season 2

It's just come out, right? Or is starting to?

I want to watch it, but my memory of the first season is pretty vague. I know there's a lot of plot elements in it so I feel like I should rewatch the first season before tackling the new one.

I wonder why they waited so long to actually produce and release this though. I get waiting a year or so after the first season in order for the manga to get far enough ahead, but hasn't it been like three years?

Attack on Titan is serialized in a monthly magazine, so they probably had to wait a bit longer for that.

(I'm also hoping that they took the time to make it as perfect as possible for broadcast audiences and not just redo chunks of it for the Blu-ray release.)

Episode 3 of season 2 is out this Saturday. There's a compilation movie out there that should go over the major plot points.

And as the other user said. There was limited material right after S1 aired, but the studio also wanted to produce their own original series, so they pushed back the SNK even more. It's also probably why we are only getting 12/13 episodes.

But I mean, isn't Attack on Titan basically a sure cash grab? I mean I guess good for them if they wanted to prioritize an original series, but Attack on Titan has the popularity where it's going to sell well even if the anime turns out really mediocre. It just seems like a strange business decision to not focus on it.

nayrt
I have no idea either. The only thing I can think of is that they're worried about the direction the manga is going in, and wanted to wait and see what would happen? Though even that's weird, because they have plenty of material before the real bullshit starts...

I remember reading somewhere that they don't make as much money as you would think and make more on their original series.

I feel like one problem is animation companies do this all the time where they animate a manga that isn't finished and they inevitably get too far ahead if they keep to a tv production schedule, I kind of wish they would wait and go for finished stories.

I don't know what all the Attack on Titan problems were though, television production can be time consuming and there's any number of things that can happen.

In any case, I recommend rewatching the first season, especially since the second has just started anyway. I went ahead and did a rewatch because I forgot a lot as well, and I was definitely glad I did when I started watching the second season because they pretty much pick up right after the season 1 finale.

Thanks, I probably will! I don't think I watched the first season since it came out, and I remember really enjoying it, so it won't be too much of a slog to rewatch it. Plus I'm not in the fandom at all, so accidental spoilers or anything aren't much of a danger.
