Isn't that every vampire or werewolf romance novel though. It's just that the "monsters" are attractive to you?

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
But that's a pretty big difference. Vampires and werewolves are usually attractive in conventional human terms, especially in romances, and a lot of the whole concept of those monsters has to do with eroticism in various ways (especially for vampires).

It's a very different narrative of you strip that away.

Vampires and werewolves aren't really monstrous enough, though. They do look way too human for what the OP is talking about.

Ew, the little girl on this picture reminds me way too much of Rin from Bunny Drop and I'm feeling all dirty because of that. Ew.

I think that's supposed to be a full size woman and the monster is just huge.

Fucking Bunny Drop i stg

(Anonymous) 2017-04-16 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. Especially that last bit would be nice for a change. I'm so over that whole "I'm a monster, how could ( insert loveinterest) ever love someone as ugly as me" angsting.

There was a book I read in college where a woman has an affair with a swamp monster. I wish I could remember the name.

Go watch Disney's Gargoyles. Then track down the Slave Labor Graphics graphic novel continuation.

I second this, go watch the first two seasons and then go read the comic.

I enjoyed this book a lot:

Radiance, by Grace Draven. The two species each think the other is hideous, but the arranged couple-to-be-married like and respect each other quickly, so romance does come to them. (I'm on the second book right now.)

Look up "Beauty and the Beast".

I'm only ever interested in this sort of storyline when it is a human man with a female monster. The male monster/human female is just way too overdone.

I just wish monster-fic spent more time exploring how monstrous the monster actually was. Like, I want loving descriptions of the love interest running his/her fingers over sharp teeth sticking out of it's gaping sarlac mouth. Or finding the ticklish spot between it's exposed ribs. Or whatever. And the inverse, too, where the flayed nightmare horror is fascinated by the human's lack of a carapace or thinks about how awesome it is that the human is all soft and furry. And how they're barely sexually compatible because humans aren't equipped to have spikes inside them or whatever.

Instead it's always about how the monster has a really huge monster cock and maybe some tentacles and is really good at fucking. Or else the physical side of things is totally brushed aside in favor of fairytale True Love. ;_;

The Ancient Magus' Bride

I found it hard to get into personally because of the non-con aspects but maybe others would find that easier to overlook.

Maybe I'm a touch naive, but how about Babylon 5? There's a lot of interspecies relationships there.

I want to introduce you to a film called Nightbreed. Don't watch the original theatrical cut. Look for the director's cut or the Cabal Cut.
